"Crucial Reggae From Outside Jamaica" is the second release on Skank Records
and believe me when I tell you that it is one killer compilation.
Containing 13 of my absolute favorite tunes and just over one hour of intense
modern roots, this disc is guaranteed to blow you away.
It starts off with the crucial vibe of "Clear Night" from Mongoose, and from there it's a non-stop
barrage of outstanding tracks, closing down with "Riding On" from Nasio Fontaine.
In between, you'll find classics from Iba, Groundation, Danny I, Bobo Ites,
Bambu Station, Abja, Junior Daniel, Ankh Watep, Ossie Dellimore and two more
from Nasio. Staying with the title's theme, these artists all hail "from outside
Jamaica" (Dominica, St. Croix, St. Thomas, St. Vincent, Canada and the U.S.,
to be exact).
The songs have all been previously released, so if you by chance already
own them all, you're set. But if you're unfamiliar with these artists and don't yet have these tunes, watch out. You
seriously won't believe the brilliance of each one of them.
Every song is truly essential and the lyrics have been included so the messages
can be fully absorbed. In fact, inside the 16 page color booklet, there's also info
found on each tune with links to the artists' websites, so you can delve more into these talented bredrin, if desired.
When Skank Records was established in 2003, I envisioned one day making outstanding compilations
'cause there's nothing I like better than to turn people on to crucial tunes.
Everything's done right on this one, too, from the killer song selection to the smooth transitions to the detailed booklet to the more-than-fair royalties being
paid to all involved - as well as a portion of the proceeds of each cd being donated to Doctors
Without Borders to help those in need the world over.
I truly feel that "Crucial Reggae From Outside Jamaica" will totally knock you out and will
undoubtedly stand the test of time and I'm extremely proud to offer it to the
world.
