Dancehall Superhits
(Pow wow)

This originally ran in the St. Louis Post Dispatch in 1992.

The title of this brand new release, "Dancehall Superhits," is indicative of its contents. The 11 tracks (5 of which are 12-inch mixes) are truly "superhits," and provide over 50 minutes of dynamic dancehall reggae from the stable of Pow Wow records.

Shabba Ranks, Yellowman, Papa San, and Tony Rebel are just a few of the showcased artists. Rebel's "Fresh Vegetable," (followed on the same rhythm by Beres Hammond's "Tempted To Touch," here entitled "Love Me Have Fi Get" with Cutty Ranks) are two examples of the high quality of this CD.

Other highlights include the extended versions of Pinchers' smash hit, "Bandelero," J.C. Lodge's "Selfish Lover," and Shabba's "Mr. Loverman." You'll also find "Hypocrites" by Michael Prophet with Daddy Freddy, and "John Law" by the trio of Freddie McGregor, Ninjaman, and Gregory Isaacs.

The selection on "Dancehall Superhits" is exceptional, making this compilation a worthwile addition for the novice, as well as more experienced, reggae listener.
