Classic Rasta From Jamaica And Beyond, Vol. 1
This long-awaited compilation is finally out and I must say it was truly worth the wait.
One dozen songs and 60 minutes of some of the most crucial reggae sounds to ever be released.
From the liner notes:
"...the critically-acclaimed first series ["Crucial Reggae From Outside Jamaica"] has now been changed to "Classic Rasta From Jamaica And
Beyond." Believe me, it's for the better, as I'll now have no limits in choosing crucial
tunes to continue creating outstanding compilations. This disc is the first example of that
and I truly feel it contains another stellar line-up of classic roots reggae."
Those words ring true as the results are off the hook.
The disc starts off with NiyoRah (from St. Thomas) and continues through with King David (from Trinidad),
Clinton Fearon (from Jamaica), Koko and Ooklah The Moc from the US - Hawaii) and Nasio Fontaine (from Dominica).
It continues on with Maimon and the Mongoose Band (US via Canada), IQulah (from Jamaica), Batch (from St. Croix),
Deyansa (from Jamaica), Poor Man Friend (from the Netherlands) and Ossie Dellimore (from St. Vincent and the Grenadines).
It closes down with an outstanding tune from the mighty California band, Groundation.
This is another stellar mix from Skank Records. The flow is impeccable and the lyrics are once again included in the 16-page
informative booklet. Portions of the proceeds are once again being donated to Doctors Without Borders, aka Medicines Sans Frontieres.
Do yourself a favor and check this one out. You'll be glad you did.
