MIDNITE
Club Viva, Feb. 4, 2004
They did again. Midnite came in town and blew the place away last night...
Playing for the 5th time at Club Viva in the past 2 years, they were
hotter than hot.
It's been freezing and snowy here and they really heated the place up,
believe me. They're embarking on a west coast tour and we were fortunate
to have them start it up by flying into St. Louis from St. Croix, playing
last night, then they're flying to Seattle for tonight's show. We realize
we're very fortunate here...that was pretty cool. They absolutely love
St. Louis and I'm proud to say that I was the catalyst in starting that
all up...
They've always started at 11 p.m. here and get cut off at 1:15. This time
there was a problem with their drum set at soundcheck, so they left and
came back around 10. They proceeded to do a quick sound check right
there, then at 10:15 they started an incredible 3 hour skankfest.
Non-stop, and as usual, they had to be taken off the stage at curfew.
They would've seriously played all night. They'll continue to do that all
tour, too. How, I don't know...
Abijah's hotter than hot on the guitar. Crucial roots vibe. Phil and Dion
are a wicked rhythm section, just wicked. Ron was great as usual, was
having a great time moving all around. and what can you say about Vaughn.
he's a very serious dread and sounded awesome.
It's hard to believe that was their first show and they basically didn't
even have a sound check. They were in "mid-season" form. Just playin
killer after killer...
If you get the chance to see em on the coast this month, by all means do
it. They're in their prime and continue to amaze me...
