BATCH, RAS ATTITUDE AND THE ZIONIERS

Club Viva, April 5, 2006

Batch, Ras Attitude and the Zioniers came thru town last night and totally blew the place away. A big storm was approaching which probably kept some people away, but the 100-150 people who showed up to Club Viva were treated to a strong, spiritual, uplifting roots reggae show.

Last time they were here they played at my Skank Records cd release party. It was a great night, but I was pre-occupied with things - DJing, selling cds, etc. - (check out my flyer here).

This time I showed up 5 minutes before they started, got right up front (within 5 feet) and was just totally knocked out for the next 2 hours and 20 minutes.

The Zioniers are hot. Constant touring has truly made them extremely cohesive. Didn't realize that the drum and bass team were father and son as well, and man they sounded good. The elder on bass layed down some crucial vibes all night long. Some of the best I've heard in a while. and his son's an excellent drummer. just sounded fantastic.

Batch and Ras Attitude were in top form. It's great to see them share the same stage. Their vocals work very well together. They are so sincere as well. It's apparent that each and every word from their mouths come directly from their hearts. It's all about their love of Selassie and making the world a more positive, upful place. Ras Attitude has boundless energy and even took to climbing the speakers, reminiscent of the man Luciano. Man, they were really good.

Two youths opened the show with a couple of tunes each. They sounded good (especially since they were backed by the Zioniers). I'm tellin ya, these players of instruments have it going on. Tight band...

Gotta roll to work. If they come to your town, do yourself a favor and check em out. Guranteed to knock ya out...
